Why Total Skin Fitness?

One of my favorite movies is "Wild". There is a line in the movie where the protagonist's mother says to her, "honey, if I can teach you anything, it is to find your Best Self, and then hold onto it for dear life."In regard to your own personal skincare efforts, does "being your Best Self" mean have perfect skin? No! It means having the healthiest skin that you possibly can. The inspiration for taking care of ourselves should not come from trying to remedy what we see as negative about ourselves, but instead should come from wanting to celebrate what we love about ourselves. By loving ourselves first we can then give back more to the ones we want to love.My most favorite client experience is when I see a different person emerge from my treatment room than the one that had originally walked in. Seeing the healthy glow of revitalized circulation and a newly confident client who literally feels more comfortable in their own skin post-treatment is priceless. The skin is the largest organ in our body. The skin functions as a barrier to harmful things in our environment, allows us to feel sensations, and regulates heat through the sweat and sebaceous glands. The physiological importance of achieving Total Skin Fitness is paramount to maintaining our skin's defenses and all of its underlying protective systems.Your skin is your first line of defense from the external environment. Maintaining the health of the skin's defenses is crucial for keeping your skin healthy. The skin is also considered to be part of the immune system, protecting us from UV radiation by producing melanin, shielding us from bacterial invasion, and preventing dehydration and physical trauma.Your skin never lies. The skin is an emotional organ. Stress, worry, happiness and even love can all be seen in the skin. Stress can be seen along the jawline if we have overactive adrenal glands, which can cause breakouts. When we get embarrassed, blushing can be seen on the skin's surface.Giving my clients a Total Skin Fitness experience means delving into everything about their lifestyle: work, travel, stress levels, diet, and hormones in order to accurately assess the skin's current health levels and to identify red flags.During my Signature and Core Treatment we start with the breath, calming the mind and allowing the body to settle and soften into the table before the treatment begins. Part of the experience is to "give yourself the gift of time" as Oprah would say. An integral part of the treatment is to reconnect to yourself, silencing all internal chatter for an hour while the skin is cleansed and rejuvenated. To put it simply, I love skin. Our skin is with us throughout our entire life and it tells a story. The journey to find and keep your Best Self starts with the skin. Taking the time to take care of your skin is the perfect first step to unlocking your Best Self.I hope to see you in my treatment room soon.
